What is Echocardiography Used For?

Echocardiography is a technique for viewing the structure and movement of a person’s heart muscle. It uses sound waves to create an image of the heart and can show it moving and beating. It is used to test how well a person’s heart chambers and valves are functioning.

The images produced by echocardiography can be used to identify areas of the heart muscle which are not operating properly because of poor blood flow or as a result of injuries caused by a heart attack. This technique can be used to detect possible blood clots that could occur in the heart and problems with the aorta, the main artery that carries blood from the heart to different areas of the body. The technique is also used to detect heart problems that can occur in infants and children and will be recommended by a doctor when symptoms of heart problems are detected in a patient.
