What is Brain Function Therapy?

Brain function therapy is a medical technique that is used to help people to re-learn mental functions lost as a consequence of a brain injury they have suffered. This might include relatively simple activities such as walking, dressing, eating or the ability to speak.

People subject to serious brain injuries also experience problems with movement, their emotional balance, memory and cognitive functions, language and speaking and pain and numbness in various parts of the bodies. Strokes are the most common cause of brain injury that requires this type of rehabilitation.

The therapy involves mental and physical exercises that aim to restore the functions lost as a result of the injury with the aim being to return a patient to living at home independently. Sometimes inpatient rehabilitation must be provided at specialized facilities before the patient is well enough to return home.
