The need for Police sign language interpreters

Mute and deaf individuals make up a percentage of communities and in order to better interact and communicate with them, there is a need for a sign language interpreter for police stations. The police are mandated to protect and serve the public and having the means to address them and understand their concerns is a must.

Communication is vital for different aspects of the police’s job and having a sign language interpreter on-call enables them to be able to accommodate individuals who rely on sign language to communicate. Although these individuals do not make up a large percentage of the population, the fact that they exist means that the police must ensure that they have the means to communicate with these individuals effectively. Having the capacity to understand and communicate using sign language empowers the police to better do their jobs.
