Thorough vehicle inspection and repair call for the ease of access to the bottom assembly. It would be too difficult to do if mechanics had to work in a cramped space with just a few inches of clearance from the ground. Increasing the clearance should be the first thing on the agenda.
A portable auto lift works best for this task. It can be thought off as a much larger jack that is capable of carrying the whole weight of the car in a balanced manner. Only a small part of the underside is covered by the lifting mechanism. Important components are exposed for inspections.
